In most cases, we will attend a mediation during some time to try to discuss the issues that we have pending, or to try to reach a lump sum settlement. So, most people that have a workers’ compensation claim will have an opportunity to not only meet with their attorney, but also the mediator—who is either hired by the state of Florida to try to help them reach an agreement, or sometimes we have what they call a Private Mediation, where we bring in a former judge who then tries to help both parties see if they can reach an agreement regarding the issues, such as maybe they owe you some lost wages, or maybe they have an authorized surgery yet. Or, if we do want to talk about settlement, the judge or the mediator can go ahead and try to get the most money for a settlement for our clients. So, we really like to go to mediation, so that way the client understands how the law works; and we not only have ourselves trying to get the most money, but now we have a former judge or former attorney who is there to try to help our clients get the most money for their cases.
